In 2003 I arrived on Oahu with 41 teenagers and 8 adults. We were here for 10 days doing sports camps in Waianae and sharing Jesus as we went. Our base camp for most of that time was Camp Pu'u Kahea in Waianae.
I never dreamed that I would meet my husband on that trip and I would now be a permanent resident on this beautiful island. My husband grew up in Waianae and this camp was essentially his back yard. Over the years we have stayed here many times for various retreats and camps and the beauty of this area never grows old.
The camp has had various directors since I have lived here and is now being run by Jimmy and Ashley Tucker. Under their stewardship, the camp has blossomed into, I feel, the best place for retreats on this island.
It is serene. There are views of the ocean as well as the rugged beauty of the Waianae Mountain Range. The porches overlook the grounds and allow for times of rest and study.
Unlike some camp food, the food at Pu'u Kahea is delicious. Chef Mike is from the South and so you will find Sweet Tea as well as local favorites.
The housing varies from Bunk Style to Hotel like rooms.
The beach is across the street and there are basketball courts and other fields on the grounds to keep you occupied.
I hope you enjoyed some of the photos from this beautiful camp.
