Years ago we were eating dinner with friends in Makaha when there was a knock on their door. At the door a firefighter who told us we needed to evacuate. The brush fire, from the far side of the mountain, was now just outside the door about 50 yards away. We knew we had to flee. We had a few minutes before we had to head to my house so what do you think we took? Was it the computer? Was it a box of documents? Nope...we grabbed the Peach Cobbler that had just finished cooking and a gallon of ice cream. Priorities.
To be fair, we were not at my house. However, watching all these evacuations from the hurricanes has me thinking, "What would I take?"
Much to everyone's surprise it wouldn't be the Cadbury Mini Eggs!
Here is my list:
My wedding album. It is special and I will never get that dressed up again.
Art that we have collected as we have traveled, and photos of our family that hang on the wall. I am happy just looking at it.
Quilts that my mom has made.
My computer and hard drives which have all my images stored. Those of my childhood, my marriage and my family.
These, especially the family photos are priceless to me. The photos remind me of magic moments, ordinary moments, and the ordinary moments that become magical.
How about you...what would you take?
